Plot:
Jack Malik (Himesh Patel) is a musician, but the only one who believes in him is his manager Ellie Appleton (Lily James). His dreams of a wild success are starting to fade away.
Till Ellie manages to close a show at the Latitude Festival. Jack is anxiously awaiting his live performance, but he gets the same reception once again. No one pays attention to him or his songs. At night he tells Ellie that he will give up. After so many failures, trying makes no sense anymore.
With his guitar in the back, he rides his bicycle to return home. Suddenly, all the lights are off. On the road and in the houses as well. Before he even realizes it, a bus hits him. Jack has lost two teeth and is unconscious on the road. After 12 seconds the lights are back on.
The next morning Jack wakes up. He is in the hospital and Ellie is there for him. She is glad her friend is fine. Soon, Jack will discover that for the rest of the world, the Beatles have never been. For the first time his friends are impressed by his songs. Only, these are the songs of the famous Beetles! As a musician, he sees an amazing opportunity and decides to grab it. He will become famous playing the music and singing the lyrics of four genius musicians. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. The legendary Beatles!
What would you do if no one remembered The Beatles? No one but you.
Our impressions and movie review:
Richard Curtis loves the Beatles and has always wanted to make a movie about them. Out of humility and respect, he thought it would be for the best to just help making this film, but not direct it himselft. Danny Boyle deserved this role and the script was written by Jack Barth on Curtis’s ideas.
Yesterday is a highly acclaimed film, with lots of laughs, pop music, good rhythm, agony, strong emotions and humanity. Released in June 2019 in cinemas. Even if you belong to those who don’t like the Beatles, this movie has something to offer you. You must see it! I’m sure you will enjoy it 🙂
