The 3 Body Problem. Synopsis
The Chinese military, during the turbulent Cultural Revolution, attempts to contact aliens by sending signals into space. Ye Wenjie, discovers that the signals do not have enough power. She finds a way to amplify them by reflecting them back to the Sun, but her superiors forbid her to do so. Then, she makes the decision to implement her idea secretly. Decades later, she discovers the far-reaching consequences of her act, across space and time.
An alien civilization, faced with impending doom, receives the signals the Kinneys had sent and plans an invasion of Earth. The protagonists do everything, against time, to stop the invasion.
As the alien threat becomes known on Earth, two different camps are formed. Some want to welcome the superior beings and help them take over a corrupt world. Others plan to fight and resist the invasion.
The 3 Body Problem. Review and Impressions
The Three Body Problem is a masterpiece of science fiction that explores the consequences of human actions on a cosmic scale. It also examines humanity’s place in the universe, our relationship with other intelligent beings, and the different perspectives and values that shape our response to monumental challenges. With its immense scope and vision, The Three Body Problem is a challenging and compelling exploration of humanity in the face of the unknown.
Released last year, Tencent’s Chinese production is considered by many to have a slower pace than Netflix’s. But it’s also much more faithful to the books it was based on. On the other hand, the Netflix production is clearly more expensive, with great special effects. But it also has the classic Netflix themes: to support diversity, we change genders and races, and the story itself, at will. Okay, sometimes they go too far.
Ultimately the Netflix show is good, but it has little to do with the original material. Writer Liu Cixin is a great “master” of the pen and you cannot actually guess that from the Netflix series.
